Organising inclusive events
The Equality and Diversity Committee, in the School of Biology, have produced guidelines for organising a diverse and gender-balanced conference or workshop. The ten principles are as follows:
- Establish a Gender-Balanced organising committee
- Develop an overt speaker policy
- Make the policy visible
- Compile a database of potential invitees
- Collect the data
- Grade the abstracts blind
- Replace like for like
- Be family (and Carer) Friendly
- Report the data
- Make a stand

The Minorities and Philosophy (MAP) UK Network, in conjunction with the British Philosophical Association, produced a draft document which sets out guidelines for planning inclusive Philosophy events, entitled Breaking Invisible Walls. Whilst the resource for developed for Philosophy, the principles are applicable to other disciplines.
