Staff training within the University
The University’s Disability Awareness and Inclusive Practice training material and the Introductory Course for Digital Accessibility provide information and advice about embedding inclusive teaching practices.
The University’s Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) programme contains an elective module on Embedding Inclusive Practice in Teaching and Learning that focuses on designing inclusive and anti-colonial teaching.
Checklists for reflecting on your own teaching
- The Open University’s Whose WORDD counts? checklist can be used to critically assess the extent to which diversity is embedded in your teaching.
- The UCL’s Inclusive Curriculum Health Check can help staff to reflect on how to embed the principles of inclusivity across the academic life cycle.
- The University of Michigan’s Reflecting on your practice: equity-focused teaching strategies covers critical engagement of difference, academic belonging, transparency, structured interactions and flexibility.
Inclusive Practice Support Group
The University’s Inclusive Practice Support Group has regular online meetings during semester to discuss inclusive pedagogical practices. All teaching staff in the University are welcome to attend. The aim of this informal support group is to provides an opportunity for staff to:
- increase their knowledge of best practice through the discussions and the recommended, multi-format reading material,
- generate ideas for their own teaching through engaging in informal conversations with other teaching staff, and
- ‘trouble-shoot’ issues related to their own pedagogy by learning from the experiences of others.

Dignity and inclusion portfolio
The University’s Dignity and Inclusion Portfolio is a programme of training and resources that builds participants’ awareness and understanding of topics related to equality, diversity, inclusion and wellbeing in the workplace. All staff are eligible to register for the training, which consists of core workshops and and online training sessions. Additional modules are available for managers.
